Titans end losing streak

The Syracuse Titans defense & Junior goalkeeper Gabby Segura secured their first shutout of the season (Segura’s 6th career), resulting in a 0-0 tie on a rare Saturday morning game against the visiting Desert Hills Thunder, one of last seasons final four in 3A & two years removed from a runner up finish in the same classification.

Desert Hills (1-1-0) visited Syracuse (0-3-1) after the Titans went down to Dixie in 2015 for the first ever series game against the two schools in history. Today’s game proved to be equally challenging and exciting as last years 2-1 Syracuse victory in St. George with both teams providing many scoring chances including shots ringing off of crossbars near the end of regulation.

After struggling offensively during the Ogden Cup this week, the Titans found their rhythm against the Thunder hitting 22 shots against the Desert Hills defense this morning. They were led in shots by Sophomore Adriana Owen with a game leading 7 shots. 10 different Cuse athletes found shooting opportunities in today’s tie, helping to end the Titans 3 game losing streak.

The prep team (JV 1-1-2) had an equally exciting game, posting their first victory of the season, a 1-0 over the Thunder JV. Priscilla Meza tapped in the Madi Dee cross for the game winning goal. Bridget Wallace earned the JV shutout in net (1st career).

Having played 4 games in 5 days, the Titans have 5 days off until another St. George school, the Snow Canyon Warriors, visit Titan Field next Friday August 19th @ 3:30 pm. This will be the final preseason game for Syracuse before they being their Region 2 schedule.
