The Syracuse Titans (1-3-1) played host to the visiting Snow Canyon Warriors (1-2-0) Friday afternoon at Titan Field. This was the last preseason match for the Titans who finally notched their first 3 points of the 2016 season with a 2-1 victory.
Snow Canyon comes into the match with plenty of 3A experience and success to challenge the Titans, having competed in 2 semi finals in the past 5 years and winning it all in 2012. This was a rematch from last years 1-1 tie in St. George.
It was a physical and tough battle for both teams, with the Titans struggling to connect with each other for the first portion of the game. The Warriors were the first to draw blood, opening the scoring in the 17th minute. After a Titan foul just outside the penalty box, the Warriors quickly played a shot on goal, catching all 11 Syracuse players off guard for the opening goal of the game.
Senior Anne Petersen helped the Titans even the score before halftime in the 35th minute, heading in the ball off of Adriana Owens corner kick. Petersen’s second goal of the season & 5th point of the season (Goals – Bonneville, Snow Canyon, Assist – Ogden)

It was Owen who proved to be the difference to push the home team over the hump. Hitting the Game Winning Goal to the far post off of a set piece in the 44th minute. The Sophomores 1st Career Varsity goal.
The Titan back line kept the Warrior offense at bay for most of the afternoon, anchored by great defensive efforts from Center backs Abby Hall and Grace Nelson.
The Titans outshot the Warriors 21-14. Syracuse put 10 shots on goal compared to 6 for the visitors. Gabby Segura had 5 saves and 8 defensive plays in net for the Titans.
The Syracuse Prep team (1-2-2) lost to Snow Canyon JV team 1-4. Madison Yamashita put in the lone goal for the Titans her JV leading 3rd goal of the season.
Syracuse begins Region 2 play next week. Visiting a very tough & 5A title contender Viewmont (4-1-0) Tuesday, then heading south to Salt Lake City to take on take on the West Panthers (0-4-0).
