Summer Weightlifting / Conditioning

Once again the season is just around the corner. As part of the Syracuse Soccer program we are strong believers in a rigorous off season training program. Every day that we meet we will be power lifting in the weight room headed up by Coach Brown, followed by an intense cardio session led by Coach Porter.13521908_1617454681879655_817163651577756665_n-e1496157554841.jpg

There are many reasons for our belief in the summer training program we run at Syracuse, obviously the physical benefits as a person and an athlete are clear, listed are the other reasons we believe in the program. It creates comradery, for a few hours every day you get to work hard with your future teammates. Hard work towards a common purpose creates an inseparable bond. Nearly all successful high school programs of any sport hit the weight room hard. Weight lifting minimizes injury, in the two years since we have implemented our power lifting program those athletes that have taken full advantage of the training have never had a serious season ending injury. We believe this (power lifting) is also one of the areas that cannot be addressed by club coaches/programs. We believe in becoming physically strong for the rigorous high school season but also mentally strong, those athletes that buy into power lifting and hard conditioning are mentally seasoned to face the grind of a 6 day a week high school season. Every year I have former high school players that return to say hi, every athlete tells the staff they are grateful they learned good technique in power lifting, which is required in their college soccer program!

While it is not required that you attend it is highly encouraged. Your tryout status will not be determined based off of your attendance in summer conditioning. What it will be is a great opportunity to interact and learn from the coaching staff three days a week and prove to them your individual work ethic and commitment to the program. We want you to be playing in summer tournaments and doing other activities like family vacations, girls camp etc. It is expected that you communicate your absences with Coach Allen before hand. (By email taallen@dsdmail.net [notice the 2 a’s] or through the remind app, (instructions below) Communicating and advocating for yourself is a life skill many high school students need to improve on and is an expectation with Syracuse girls soccer.

Attached below are all the conditioning dates. Many of the girls have been lifting hard in class since last June. For those that have been in the 4th period class you get a few weeks off to rest and recover. If you were not in the 4th period class, we expect you at the sessions on June 6th and 8th. There Coach Brown will introduce power lifting to those that have never done it before and help you with your technique and get the freshmen from last season back into the groove.

Every day plan on meeting before 9 am outside the West weight room doors (near the indoor track/weight room doors on the second level). Wear workout clothes/shoes every day. Please also bring water, your cleats and a ball in case we plan on doing ball work that day. Coach Porter and Winget will still run weightlifting sessions the third week of June for all the girls that are not attending the team camp this summer.

We understand many newcomers have never spent ample time in the weight room. Many athletes have never been in a weight room and feel comfortable very quickly, don’t hesitate to join us. For returning players this is your time to shine and work as hard as possible to prepare for the start of August.

Tryout Meeting Recap

It was great seeing such a packed room and seeing all the girls old and new back together again.

With State Track and Field and State Cup going on I wanted to take a second and recap some of the quick things we went over in the Tryout Meeting for the 2017 season.

Please take a minute to go check out the various aspects of the program on the website, check out the record book, season finishes, head to head matchups, All-State Recipients, next years schedule and much more. Get to know your 2017 coaching staff Head Coach Taylor Allen, and Assistant Coaches Karen Winget, Libby Porter, and Troy Brown. The coaches are excited about the strides the program has made in the last 2 years and look forward to the challenge of a being back into the Region 1 fold.

Girls we ask that you invest yourself into the team, Time to be a Titan! Be winners with your attitude every day, especially when it comes to hard work and the details many athletes chose to ignore. Remember no room for Negativity! Be selfless, be a leader and be devoted, even as a young freshmen you can chose to do this.

I will put a second post together soon about summer conditioning with every specific date/detail.

Tryouts will be as follow

Day 1 – July 31st 8 am jr/sr and 11 am so/fr (1st cuts will be posted by 5 pm)
Day 2 – Aug. 1st: 7 am all grades 2 mile run. 8 am jr/sr and 11 am so/fr (1st cuts will be posted by 5 pm)
Day 3 – Aug. 2nd: Combined all girls tryout, time tbd (final cuts posted by 5 pm)

All girls will be required to bring/wear their tryout # (provided by Coach Allen), cleats, shin guards, running shoes, water and a white tee

Prior to tryouts all girls need to do 2 things. They will need to register online for a tryout # here. You will also need to go onto www.registermyathlete.com and create a profile to be able to tryout. If you were on the team last year you will just need to add the ’17-’18 season once the school year is over.

To get summer soccer information, please Text the code @2decfb to 81010 to receive messages from Coach Allen. This is a new code for 2017 girls soccer summer conditioning so if you were on the list last summer or on the team list last season you will need to join this one as well.

We also invite you to go like our social media pages for up to date information on our program. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

We look forward to what looks to be an exciting and outstanding summer and fall, kicked off with our preseason trip to St. George.

Attached below is the handout from the meeting and please contact Coach Allen by email with any questions or concerns @ taallen@dsdmail.net (notice the 2 a’s).
