Syracuse opens region play with win

The Syracuse Titans (5-0-0, 1-0-0) opened region 1 play Tuesday afternoon with a shutout victory over the visiting Northridge Knights (3-2-0, 0-1-0).

It was Junior Lauren Burnett who opened the scoring for the home team pushing the Titans to a 1-0 halftime lead, it was Burnett’s 4th goal of the season and career (2nd game winning goal). Freshman Sarah Wynn continued her outstanding high school campaign putting in the final tally for the Titans. (5th of season).

Freshman Caroline Stringfellow assisted on both goals (14th & 15th of season). Senior Goalkeeper Gabby Segura secured her 3rd shutout of the season (13th career) and her 23rd career win, Segura made critical saves all night to keep the clean sheet in the net.

Syracuse outshot their opponents 20-13, on goal the Titans put 9 in favor of the Knights 7. They also led on corner kicks 4-3.

For the prep team Freshman Brianna Daw put in her 3rd goal on the season for the JV squad in a 1-2 loss to Northridge JV.

SHS continues their region campaign with another home stand against the Clearfield Falcons (1-1-1). This will be the 12th meeting between the schools.
