Caroline Stringfellow must really love the soccer field at Weber High School. Last year when the Titans visited Warrior Field, the then Freshman, led Syracuse to victory with a hat trick. This year, the sophomore put in a hat trick by halftime to inch the Titans closer to their second straight Region 1 title.
It was a resounding 5-2 victory for the Syracuse Titans (13-0-0, 9-0-0) against the home Weber Warriors (6-6-1, 4-4-1). The 6th victory over Weber for ‘Cuse in the overall series (6-13-2) and the second straight season sweep over the Warriors.
It was a quick 3′ goal that got the game started. A combination from Senior Gabby Bugtong and Junior Ashlyn Hall eventually finding Stringfellow open in front of the net. Hall added her 14th goal of the season (54th career) in the 10′. From there the Titans rolled. Stringfellow found the net again in the 32′, 41′, and 54’. Caroline continues to lead 6A in scoring putting in her 18th goal of the season (47 career). After a wild first half that included 6 goals combined, the second half settled into a rhythm with the defense getting the second half clean sheet.
Assists on the day were provided by Hall with 2 (7 season, 37 career), Junior fullback Madi Dee had her second assist of the season (4th career), Junior center back Kelsey Steed had her 3rd assist of the season (7th career) and Sophomore Genevieve Gotschall got her first career assist.
Syracuse outshot the Warriors 24-9, including more on frame 14-4. They also dominated in corner kicks, winning the battle 6-0. Fouls were even on the game at 10-10.
JV finished the game in a close 0-1 loss.
Next up for the Titans is a home match against the Davis Darts (7-2-2, 4-2-2). The match will be played Tuesday at 3:30 pm on Titan Field. Overall the Darts lead the series 2-21-0. Students, parents and fans come #fillthehill.
