Titans clinch title!

It was off of the foot of Adriana Owen that the Titans found victory Thursday afternoon. The Syracuse Titans (14-1-0, 10-1-0) defeated the second place team from Region 1, the Layton Lancers (9-3-2, 6-2-2) by a score of 2-1 Thursday afternoon.

The win secured an outright back to back Region 1 titles for the Titans. The first time in school history. It also secures the #1 seed in the state 6A tournament for the Titans for the second year in a row, enabling the possibility of two home playoff games at Titan Field for ‘Cuse.

The Lancers scored first in the 8’ for their lone goal of the game. Senior midfielder Adriana Owen had the brace for the Titans in the win. The Titans evened the Adrianascore 10 minutes after LHS off of a Caroline Stringfellow assist, leading to the halftime draw. In the second half Stringfellow (13 season, 45 career assists) and Sophomore Sarah Wynn combined to assist to Owen. Wynn had her team leading 14th assist (25th career). Once again Owen provided every goal against the Lancers. It brings her season total to 8 goals on the season (10 career). It was also Owen’s second game winning goal of the season (3rd career).

Senior goalkeeper Brooklyn Stringfellow stood on her head in net helping to secure the win for the Titans. It was the 8th win of the season for the keep. She recorded 9 saves on the day including a point blank stuff in the second half to secure the region title.

This was the first season sweep of the Lancers in 12 year history of SHS. Overall Layton leads the series 7-17-0.

The Syracuse JV team (6-5-4, 4-3-4) finished in a 2-2 tie to the Lancers. Freshman Mia Hammond continues to find the back of the net, tallying her JV leading 6th goal of the season. Junior Jordan Stimpson added her 2nd goal of the 2018 JV season.

Syracuse now will take a much needed bye Tuesday before finishing the 2018 regular season with Senior night against the Fremont Silverwolves (2-9-2, 1-7-2) next Thursday at 3:30 pm. Come #fillthehill
