It was nice way to get out of the nasty northern Utah weather and it was a good start to the season for the 2019 Syracuse Titans (2-0-1) as the Varsity and JV teams combined to go undefeated at the St. George Invitational with a combined 5 wins and 1 tie over the two day event.


On the Varsity side Senior Ethan Harris paced the Titans on the weekend with 4 goals over two games (4 season, 9 career). Harris recorded his first career hat trick in the Titans season opening win against Tooele (0-2-0) a 6-1 victory. Freshman Bennett Carlson put in his first career goal against the Buffs, while other goals on the day were scored by Junior Andrew Torena (1 season, 3 career) and Junior Austin Simmons (1 season/career).
In the night game Friday evening the Titans battled with the Lehi Pioneers (1-2-1) @ Desert Hills Stadium to a 1-1 tie. After a scoreless first half, Harris scored the Titans lone goal after earning and placing in the penalty kick. In the 68′ the Pioneers tied up the game in what would eventually be the final score.
Saturday am the boys found themselves sore and tired but pulled together a complete game as a team against the Hurricane Tigers (1-2-0). ‘Cuse outshot the Tigers 19 shots to 1. Sophomore Seth Mendoza found his first career goal with Torena and Harris both assisting on the play. In the second half Torena put in his second goal of the season to finalize the day for the Titans. Junior GK Liam Jensen and Sophomore keep Brayden Varela split the shutout in net for the Titans.
The JV team had an incredible weekend going 3-0-0 on the weekend. The boys had 10 different goal scorers on the weekend and two different shutouts.
Against Tooele it was a 57′ mercy rule. The scoring started quickly in the second minute. Goal scorers on the gamer were Junior Dallin Moore, Freshman Santiago Quiroz, Sophomore Kestin Garner, Sophomore Brayden Hart (2), Freshman Blake Kneedy, Junior Abram Swider, and Junior Kyler Bailey. Sophomore Hayden Poll and Freshman Britton Moline shared the shutout in net.

That night against Lehi the younger squad secured a tough 2-1 victory. Sophomore Tracen Jacobs put in a pk 10′ into the game. Sophomore Seth Mendoza broke a late game tie with a set piece header with 2′ left in the game.
Against the Hurricane Tigers Sophomore Kestin Garner, Abram Swider and Tracen Jacobs each put in their second goal of the season. While Cole Affleck finished the scoring on the day with his first career JV goal.
Next up for the Titans, they travel up north to Roy high to take on the Royals (1-2-0) Tuesday at 3:30 pm. Wednesday, SHS will host their first home game of the season against Highland (0-0-0) at Titan field.
