The Syracuse Titans (2-0-0, 0-0-0) went to Utah County on Thursday evening to compete in the programs first ever game against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles (1-1-0, 0-0-0). BYU commit Caroline Stringfellow led all scorers in the Titans 7-4 victory.
In an electric atmosphere, rainy weather and on thick grass the Titans rallied from an early 1-0 deficit. Giving up the lead in the 7′, it took 1′ for Senior Ashlyn Hall to put in a pk earned by Freshman Cortney Cobabe to even the score. Junior Sarah Wynn found the back of the net 3 minutes later to put the visitors ahead for good.

Hall notched her second goal of the day in the 15′ (3 season, 63 career). After that the Junior, Stringfellow, took over the game. Notching the next 3 goals in the 24′ 34′, and 65′. Stringfellow created her 8th career hat trick as a Titan. The school’s 21st. Every single time in school history a Titan has had a hat trick, the team has recorded a victory in the game.
Wynn completed the scoring deflecting a clearance off of a Maple Mountain defender in the 78′ to put the game away for the 10 man ‘Cuse. (2 season, 22 career). Two assists on the day were provided by Stringfellow (5 season, 53 career) and Senior Madison Yamashita (2 season, 2 career). One assist each came from Wynn (2 season, 33 career), Hall (2 season, 41 career), and Sophomore Elle Affleck recorded her first career point as a Titan getting the assist on Stringfellow’s final goal.
Freshman goal keeper Presley Whitesides earned her second career victory in the win, recording 5 saves on the day. The Titans outshot the Eagles 21-20, putting a whopping 17 on frame. ‘Cuse had more corner kicks than the home team 5-2, they had 8 fouls compared to 9 for the home team. The home team had one yellow card, the Titans had one red card, zero yellows.
5 minutes into the second half, lightning delayed the game for 1.5 hours. Due to the delay, the JV team played their game early Friday am against the Golden Eagles. The SHS JV girls pulled out a 2-1 victory.
Two girls netted their first career goals as Titans. Sophomore Midfielder Jaycee Page, assisted by Autumn Hogan w/ her first career point as a Titan, got the first goal of the game. Sophomore Skylee Hopkins put in the game winning goal after the Golden Eagles tied up the game 1-1, assisted by Page.
The Titans made a team trip out of the games. Staying the night down south and floating down the Provo river as a team before heading home.
This week Region 1 play begins, with the realignment and the addition of Roy HS, region competition begins a week earlier than usual. The Titans are the two time defending Region Champions (2017, 2018). This year they begin region play with a great game against last years state finalist, the Layton Lancers (2-0-0, 0-0-0). A matchup of two of the top 5 ranked teams in 6A on Tuesday at home. The Titans beat the Lancers in two close games last year. The first a 3-2 overtime victory, then taking 3 points on the road in a 2-1 win. This years game will be played on Titan Field at 3:30 pm, come support the lady Titans and fill the hill before the school year begins!
