After receiving a first round bye in the 6A playoffs Thursday afternoon, the #4 seed Syracuse Titans (13-3-0) learned their opponent for Tuesday’s sweet 16 match up.
For the third time this season the Titans will meet up with a region rival, the Roy Royals (4-12-1). The #20 seed went on the road and upset the #13 seed Copper Hills Grizzlies 2-1 with a first overtime golden goal.
‘Cuse won both meetings over the Royals this season, the first a 7-4 decision, with the second a 6-0 win in the Titans favor.
The Titans and Royals have met 10 times in school history. Syracuse leads the overall series 9-1. This will be the first ever playoff match up between the two schools. The new RPI format for the state playoffs now provides region teams to meet up at anytime. Previously you would not see a region foe until the semi finals.
Syracuse has now qualified for the playoffs for 5 straight seasons. This will also be the 5th straight time hosting a playoff game for ‘Cuse. In 2018 the Titans defeated Kearns and Pleasant Grove at home en route to the Semi finals at Juan Diego High School. In 2017 they earned two playoff home wins over West Jordan and Pleasant Grove prior to the neutral semi finals. The Titans are 5-5 all time in the state playoffs.
Syracuse and Roy will face off at Titan field, Tuesday October 15th at 4 pm. Coach Allen and his staff invite all of Titan Nation to come fill the hill and support our girls as they continue their climb.
