Wynn paces Titans for 100th win in school history

In the 100th win in school history (13 seasons), the Syracuse Titans (14-3-0) opened up the 2019 UHSAA 6A playoffs with a second round 5-1 victory over the Roy Royals (4-13-1).

After a first round bye Syracuse, the #4 seed, took 20 minutes to shake off the rust after a 12 day break from playing soccer. Junior forward Sarah Wynn put in two of the Titans first three goals to break a 0-0 tie and lead ‘Cuse in points on the day (10 goals on the season, 30 career). Junior midfielder Caroline Stringfellow had her third game winning goal of the season (14 career) as she beat the Roy keeper one on one for her 18th goal of the season (69 career). In the second half Freshman Abby Schofield pushed the Titan lead to four with her seventh goal of the season, and senior midfielder Jordan Stimpson finished the scoring for ‘Cuse with her first career goal.

Assists on the day were provided by Wynn (12 season, 43 career), Stringfellow with 2 (19 season, 67 career), Senior defender Madi Dee (2 season, 8 career), Senior forward Ashlyn Hall (17 season, 56 career) and Schofield (5 season/career).

The Titans outshot the Royals 32-2, putting 21 of their 32 shots on frame. Schofield and Senior midfielder Madison Yamashita both paced the Titans with 7 shots a piece. Schofield led the team with 6 shots on frame. The Titans had more corner kicks 8-2, both teams had 8 fouls and 3 off sides calls.

The win completes the first 3 game sweep in a year for ‘Cuse in school history. The Titans now hold a 10-1 overall series lead over Roy.

Next up is another home playoff game and another Region opponent in the third round of the state playoffs. The Titans will host the #5 seed Davis Darts (12-2-3) in the quarterfinals. This is the 27th overall meeting against the Darts. Davis holds a decided 3-23 advantage in the series. The two schools have split the annual season series 1-1 for three straight years. This is the first playoff match up between the two schools. The quarterfinals will take place this Thursday, October 17th, at 4 pm on Titan Field.
