Head Coach: Taylor Allen

2017-18Coach Allen hails from all over the west. Having lived in Arizona, Idaho, California, Utah and New Mexico. He was a multi sport Varsity athlete in Soccer & Wrestling, while prepping at Northridge High School (Layton, UT). Coach also played soccer competitively for clubs in both California and Utah growing up.

Allen graduated from Weber State University with three degrees. A major in History and two minors, one in Coaching and a second in Physical Education. He also earned his M.Ed in Secondary Ed Leadership from Utah State University. Currently he teaches AP Comparative Politics, AP U.S. Government, US Government, World Civilizations and the Boys and Girls Soccer Team Conditioning classes at Syracuse High. He is also an AP Reader each summer for AP Gov.

Prior to Syracuse, Allen taught and coached at Brighton high school. There he was an assistant for the Brighton boys soccer team with legendary soccer coaches Russ Boyer and Tom Cushing and was also the head wrestling coach for the Bengals. Prior to Brighton, Coach Allen assisted at Northridge High School while earning his degrees.

He has coached seven season as Head Coach for the Titan Girls (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), and eight overall with the girls program having served as an assistant for a year under Todd Schwartz (2014). He also has been an assistant with Coach Brown on the SHS wrestling staff for 9 years.

The Titan girls went 10-6-1 overall in Allen’s first season, a seven and a half win improvement from the previous season, going 8-4-0 in region play to qualify for the state playoffs for the first time since the school’s 3rd season (2009).

As a Head Coach, Coach Allen has led the Lady Titans to the state playoffs (5A and 6A) every year as head coach (7x), has coached two All-Americans, one Deseret News Ms. Soccer, one 6A MVP (Deseret News), one Player of the Year (Salt Lake Tribune), one United Soccer Coaches Utah Player of the Year,

26 all-staters, two area MVP’s (Standard Examiner), 30 All Area selections and has sent 26 girls to play at the collegiate level. He has won two Region titles, three Final Four appearances, one state runner up finish in the 6A classification and has finished ranked in the top 5 of their classification five times.

In 2017, coach’s third season, he helped the Titans lead the state in scoring and set school records in wins (17), they went undefeated at home (9-0), and finished 2nd in state with a heartbreaking loss in the state title game, the ’17 girls led the 6A classification in scoring (84 goals, 4.2 per game avg). 2018 saw the Titans lead the 6A classification in both scoring and scoring defense (a school record 10 goals against, .53 per game), the girls had the best win % in school history (.895%) and a new SHS single season record for shutouts (12). In 2019 the Titans led the 6A classification in scoring (69 goals, 3.8 per game avg) again, including a school record 53 goals scored during region play (3.8 per game avg). 2020 the titans once again led the 6A classification in a per game scoring average while playing their toughest season schedule to date. (72 goals, 3.8 per game avg). 2021 saw the Titans upset the nationally ranked and RPI #1 seed Lone Peak Knights in the quarter finals. Losing in the 6A semis in a PK shootout. 

In addition to winning on the field, Allen’s teams excel off the field as well. The average GPA of his girls teams has improved steadily over the years with 2017 showing a 3.781 average. 2021 saw the highest ever GPA for Cuse girls soccer, with a cumulative team gpa of 3.82 (45 players). Players under his tutelage have consistently earned Honor Roll, and High Honor Roll. The highlight being fifteen 5A/6A Academic All-State Recipients in the last 7 seasons (16 total recipients in school history). Every year the team also participates in player led community service projects to give back to the local Syracuse and West Point community.

He is the all time wins leader at Syracuse Girls Soccer in overall, region and playoff wins. He is the only coach to record playoff wins in school history. He is the Region 1 coach of the year (all sports) for 2017, the 2017 Girls Soccer Coach of the Year for the Standard Examiner and the recipient of the 2017 UHSAA Distinguished Service Award, 6A Coach of the year (all sports) class of 2017. His teams hold every single season record in SHS history. 

In 2019 Coach Allen took over the boys program at SHS. In 2021 the men had their first winning season in school history (12-5-0) and he looks forward to working towards their first region championships. In his second season, the shortened 2020 Covid-19 campaign, the Titan men finished with a .500 record both in region and preseason play, the best winning % in SHS history until the ’21 season.  His teams now hold 19 of 20 single season records in SHS history. 

He is the all time wins leader at Syracuse Boys Soccer in overall wins, he holds the best win % in overall and region games in school history.  His teams hold the best goals per season and goals against per season averages in school history. He is the only coach in school history to advance out of the first round of the state playoffs (2021). 

He has had one Academic All-State recipient, the first for the school since 2015. He has coached two All-State recipients, the first recipients for SHS since 2014, and our schools only first team award winners. 4 All Area recipients, and he has sent four male athlete to play on at the next level.

He lives in West Haven with his incredible wife Shalie their 4 kids and their two dogs Daisy & Tucker and their cat Lulu. His kids also adopted a random rabbit that wanders the yard and eats all the perennials. He can be contacted by email taallen@dsdmail.net (notice the 2 a’s).
